United Nations Population Fund Advisor (UNFPA) Mahdi Al-Alak confirmed this Thursday (28 August 2025) that the living situation has improved significantly in recent years, with multidimensional poverty rates in Iraq having decreased to 11%.

Al-Alak told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The living situation has improved significantly, as it is not possible to compare 1995, which was at the height of the siege imposed on Iraq, in 2024 as the rate of poverty decreased to 17.5 percent, and its percentage became acceptable compared to what it was years ago, where it was more than 20 percent."

"The decline does not prevent the adoption of plans to alleviate poverty in Iraq, therefore, the Ministry of Planning recently launched the third poverty alleviation strategy in Iraq." He added.
