Nearly 8,000 Cambodian civilians remain displaced along the border with Thailand more than 10 months after a ceasefire, Cambodia’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday, accusing Thai forces of preventing their return.

The ministry said 7,873 people from 1,869 families, including 1,847 children, remain unable to return to their homes near the Boeung Trakuon checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province, according to daily Phnom Penh Post.

The figures were released as the ASEAN Observer Team visited the area Tuesday to assess conditions along the disputed border.
