On 13 May 2022, a conference titled “EU-Turkey Cooperation in Central Asia” jointly organized by the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVIM) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. the conference brought together 150 participants including diplomats, academicians, and experts.

After the opening speeches of the conference delivered by Ret. Amb Alev Kılıç, Director of AVIM, Walter Glos, Director of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Office in Türkiye; Dr. Alparslan Bayraktar, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye, Amb. Baghdad Amreyev, Secretary-General of Organization of Turkic States, Mr. Rovshan Mirzayev, Director for Energy, Minerals and Environment (ECO), and Amb. Yönet Can Tezel, Director General for Bilateral Political Affairs (Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Caucasia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye, delivered keynote speeches.

Speakers of the first panel of the conference titled “Promoting Regional Energy Connectivity and Trade in Central Asia” was moderated by Barçın Yinanç The speakers of the panel were Mr. Yurdakul Yiğitgüden, Former Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities and former Under-Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye, Ret. Amb. Mithat Rende, Former Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the OECD, and Mr. Akram Nematov, First Deputy Director, Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The second panel titled “EU-Turkey Cooperation in a Geopolitically Contested Environment” was moderated by Zeynep Gürcanlı. Speakers of that panel were Tony van der Togt, Senior Research Associate at Clingendael Institute, Ret. Amb. Selim Yenel, President of Global Relations Institute Istanbul, and Dr. Daria Isachenko, associate at the Centre for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS).

 In both panels, speakers discussed a wide range of issues related to EU-Türkiye cooperation in Central Asia.
