Kazakhstan is making rapid progress in transforming itself into a digital power, according to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

In a wide-ranging interview with a local media outlet, Tokayev, who has declared 2026 the year of digitalization and artificial intelligence, expressed satisfaction with the pace of change, emphasizing that Kazakhstan’s rapid development of a cognitive economy is a vital matter of national security.

“Kazakhstan must become a digital power. This is a matter of our collective survival as a civilized nation in a new technological era,” Tokayev said in the January 5 interview. “The emergence of artificial intelligence has created a clear dividing line between countries that will succeed in entering the future and those that will remain in the past.”
