Agerpres (4 November 2026)

The Republic of Moldova and Romania share the same history, language and culture, and relations between the two countries go beyond a strategic partnership, being genuinely fraternal, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said at the Euronews Enlargement Summit 2026, stressing that reunification with Romania is a fundamental issue for Moldova's future and cannot be treated as a mere fallback option, news portal Deschide.md reported on Wednesday.

'We have a great deal in common with Romania. The same history, the same language, the same culture; we were once the same country. Romania is by far our greatest friend, and I believe our relationship is more than strategic; it is truly fraternal,' Vasile Tofan said.

Referring to the prospect of reunification, the Moldovan prime minister said such a decision could not be made conditional on the success or failure of Moldova's other strategic objectives.
