Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that indirect negotiations with the United States of America are continuing through intermediary countries. He also revealed details of the seven-day initiative Tehran proposed to open the Strait of Hormuz, noting the allocation of routes for Iraqi ships to pass through in order to ease the losses resulting from the strait’s closure, as well as understandings reached with the Sultanate of Oman on defining navigation routes. He stressed his country’s readiness to confront any new war while keeping the door to diplomacy open.

In an interview with Al-Iraqiya News, monitored by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Araghchi addressed the economic repercussions of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Iraq. He affirmed that “Tehran recognizes the scale of the losses and economic burdens Iraq has incurred as a result of developments in the strait,” noting that “the Iranian side has made efforts to ease these costs.”

He explained that “Iranian measures to reduce the losses borne by Iraq included opening special routes for Iraqi ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.”
