Hundreds of protesters were detained in India's capital New Delhi as the newly founded Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) launched a protest demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner over deletion of voters from electoral rolls.

India has witnessed protests launched by opposition parties after The Indian Express reported last month that two election commissioners had raised concerns with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar about decisions related to the revision of the voter list, an exercise that began last year.

The revision exercise of the voter list began last year and has been rolled out in multiple states. The opposition alleges that the exercise removed a large number of voters.
