Russian President Vladimir Putin urged Armenia on Tuesday to decide swiftly on joining the European Union, stating that Moscow needs clear direction to plan future bilateral economic relations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said Armenia should decide "sooner" on joining the European Union, adding that Moscow needs clarity on how to develop bilateral relations, primarily economically.

Speaking with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Putin said Russia remains Armenia's main trade and economic partner, stressing that bilateral trade has reached $2.5 billion in 2026.
