Russia said that Yerevan’s aspirations to join the European Union have already caused damage to Armenia’s economy and warned of a more bleak economic outlook if the process moves forward.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said in an interview with “Vedomosti” published on Friday that Armenia’s move toward the EU has created skepticism about Russian companies doing business with Armenia.

Overchuk, who has warned about Armenia’s aspirations before, said that Armenia’s membership in the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union has significantly impacted Armenia’s economic growth. He pointed out that while trade with EEU countries has reached $12.7 billion, Armenia’s trade with the EU was at $2.3 billion.
