Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Saturday that Japan and the US have become trusted allies, speaking after a phone call with President Donald Trump following his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Japan and the United States have now become the most trusted allied nations,” Takaichi said on US social media company X, adding that the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to jointly contribute to peace and stability in the region and the world.

Takaichi said the phone call began at 9 pm local time (1200GMT) and that Trump called her shortly after his meeting with Xi.
