China’s foreign minister said Monday that relations between China and Mexico should remain free from third-party influence while urging closer political and economic cooperation with the Latin American country.

Wang Yi made the remarks during talks in Beijing with Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente Velasco, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

“China-Mexico relations do not target any third party, nor should they be affected by any third party,” Wang said.
