Protests against the leadership of Slovenia's prime minister echoed through the streets of Ljubljana on Sunday, providing a counterpoint to diplomatic preparations for Slovenia to take over the rotating EU leadership in a few weeks.

Thousands of people from opposition parties and labour unions gathered in the Slovenian capital to demonstrate against Prime Minister Janez Jansa, reported the STA news agency. Separately - and during a meeting with foreign diplomats to prepare for the EU presidency, the country's president, Borut Pahor, also laid on the criticism of Jansa.
