Makhachkala Seaport plans to strengthen cooperation with Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan in 2026 to redirect Chinese cargo flows to the Trans-Caspian route, Trend reports.

The initiative is part of Russia’s broader shift in cargo traffic toward eastern and southern directions, with Iran, India, China, and Central Asian countries identified as key partners.

Within the framework of the North-South transport corridor, the port has also reduced costs for multimodal container shipments along the Mumbai-Makhachkala route by half, improving the competitiveness of the corridor.
