Charles Kusher, the new United States ambassador to France, sent a letter to President Emmanuel Macron criticizing France's plan to recognize the State of Palestine, days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a similar move.

Charles Kushner, the new United States ambassador to France, had remained discreet since his arrival in Paris in early July. His first public initiative is likely to strain relations between French President Emmanuel Macron and his American counterpart, Donald Trump. In a letter dated Monday, August 25, and released to the press late Sunday afternoon, August 24, the father-in-law of Trump's eldest daughter alerted Macron to the rise of antisemitism in France.

"On the 81st anniversary of the Allied Liberation of Paris, which ended the deportation of Jews from French soil, I write out of deep concern over the dramatic rise of antisemitism in France and the lack of sufficient action by your government to confront it," wrote Kushner, who was appointed by Trump in January.
