Kabar (28 March 2024)

President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, had previously proposed that the Inter-Parliamentary Union's 150th-anniversary assembly be held in Uzbekistan. An agreement to this effect was signed in Geneva, Switzerland, between Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, Kun.uz reported.

This prestigious organization, which unites 180 parliaments worldwide, traditionally holds its high-level assembly sessions in countries with a positive experience in parliamentarianism and stable development.

The decision to host such an expansive parliamentary-focused event for the first time in the region is attributed to the active role of the Uzbek parliament in achieving goals of stable development, harmonizing the regulatory and legal framework with international standards, promoting human rights and gender equality at the parliamentary level, and the extensive involvement of the youth in law-making activities within the Youth Parliament.
