Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, discussed the tragic humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, on Thursday (4 September 2025).

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in its (164) regular session held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo."

The statement added, "The meeting discussed the tragic humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly current developments in the Gaza Strip and the region, in addition to discussing the efforts made by the agency and its staff to provide support and assistance to Palestinian citizens."
