The Media Office of the Iraqi Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani launched, on Thursday, during his visit to Basra Governorate, the construction works of the strategic seawater desalination project near the Grand Faw Port, with a total capacity of 1 million cubic meters per day.

The statement read “He highlighted the efforts that led to the launch of this vital project, considered the largest and most advanced of its kind in the region, amid the persistent shortages in rainfall and reduced water inflows from the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. He emphasized that desalination projects constitute a sustainable solution to meet the needs of Basra’s residents.”
