Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was suspended Thursday, hours after the publication of a damning report by the national equality and human rights watchdog into anti-Semitism in the party.

A Labour spokesperson said Corbyn, who led the party from 2015 to 2019, had been suspended “in light of his comments” in response to the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s report and “his failure to retract them subsequently.”

The report, the culmination of an 18-month investigation launched while Corbyn was still in office, concluded that the Labour party was “responsible for unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination” and said the leader’s office had been responsible for “political interference” into investigations of anti-Semitism complaints.
